Cape Range
Formerly known as "Rough Range," the area was the site of the first drilling for oil in Western Australia in 1952. Several sites were drilled, and oil was struck in in one of them, although not of sufficient quantity to be commercial.
Little did those early drillers know that just to the North of the range and offshore were the massive gas field of the Northwest Sheld were waiting to be discovered.
It is now a surprisingly rugged National Park, with excellent views into the canyons that traverse the range.
